1 Cor 3:10-11
“According to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building on it. But each man must be careful how he builds on it. For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
If you’re building something that you want to last, you need a strong foundation. This requires doing things the right way, even though it may not necessarily be the quick way or the easy way. This principle applies to every area of our lives – marriage, careers, parenting, health, relationships. Paul tells us here that we all need a strong foundation for our spiritual lives as well. There are no shortcuts! No one can grow or last without a firm foundation.
These days, most people consider the Bible’s teachings to be irrelevant and old-fashioned. There are those who cling to worldly ideas, fads, and philosophies that sound attractive – but these things will not survive the test of time. They don’t have a proper foundation!
Remember, trends, philosophies, and fashion may change over time. Social movements will come and go. Base your life and your hope on the only thing that doesn’t change: God’s unchanging word. “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of God stands forever.” (Isaiah 40:8).
